COBH (CORK) -
BLARNEY, KINSALE - Full day You take the scenic route through
Cobh, originally a small fishing village. Cobh was the departure point for many
Irish immigrants in the 19th century, and is associated with the loss of the
Titanic and Lusitania. Titanic victims are buried in the graveyard. Visit
Blarney with time for shopping at the Blarney Woollen Mills and a chance to
kiss "The Stone". It is a curious place of ancient trees and far more
ancient stones, by legend a garden of druidic origin. The place has an aura of
magic and mystique with Wishing Steps, Witch's Kitchen, Druids' Cave and many
other delights, telling a story of centuries past. Enjoy a walking tour of
Kinsale, one of the most historic and picturesque towns with quaint cobbled
streets, gourmet restaurants and yachts moored in the harbor.
More Cork choices.
DUBLIN/NEWGRANGE/GUINNESS Full day - and what a day! Drive
to the Boyne Valley, where you find some of the most venerated prehistoric
sites and monuments. You explore Newgrange or Knowth, the large cairn, or
burial site erected during the Stone Age. Finely calculated, swirl-patterned,
decorative stones line the tomb's entrance. Legend has it that the people here
worshiped the sun, because the Newgrange tomb is situated so that the sun
shines into the chambers on the shortest day of the year, December 21st. Return
to Dublin for a tour, including Trinity College, the Georgian doors, the Post
Office, and visit the Guinness Brewery. More
Dublin choices.
BELFAST Full Day: PANORAMIC
TOUR, GIANTS CAUSEWAY, DUNLUCE CASTLE including the Falls Road, the Murals
and Titanic Quarter. Take the stunning coast road to visit the strange natural
phenomenon at Giant's Causeway an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt
columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. Dunluce Castle on its
stunning cliff top location, one of the most extensive ruins of a medieval
castle in Northern Ireland. More Belfast
Choices.
GLASGOW -LOCH LOMOND, STIRLING CASTLE,
LUSS - Full day Travel to Loch Lomond, the largest fresh water lake in the
UK with 38 islands. Many of the cottages that distinguish nearby Luss were
originally erected to house workers in the cotton mill and slate quarries of
the 18th and 19th centuries. The homes have been fully restored and Luss has
been designated a "Conservation Village". Stirling Castle is one of
most important castles, both historically and architecturally, in Scotland.
Several Scottish Kings and Queens have been crowned at Stirling. Visit the
James IV's Great Hall - the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in
Scotland and the Great Kitchens which dramatically bring to life how lavish
banquets were created in James IV's day. The Tapestry Studio has been working
on a recreation of The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries here, and you can watch
the weavers at their task. More Glasgow
choices.
EDINBURGH PANORAMIC TOUR
& ROYAL YACHT BRITANNIA- Half day. Visit the Royal Yacht Britannia
- the seagoing palace for the Royal Family until 1997. Your audio guide will
provide commentary while you view the Queen's and Prince Philip's staterooms,
the drawing room, the formal dining room, the bridge, the admiral's suite, the
officers' ward room, crew quarters, laundry room, the engine room and the open
decks. Then, tour the principal sights of this elegant Georgian city. Drive
along Princes Street and through the 200-year-old New Town. See the medieval
section of the city and Edinburgh Castle which dominates the city center and
historic Royal Mile. Pass St. Giles Cathedral, Holyrood Palace, official home
of the Queen when she visits, and the Sir Walter Scott Memorial. Drive to the
top of Calton Hill for views of the castle and the city. You will be returned
to your ship, or if you prefer, dropped in Edinburgh to continue your tour on
your own. We have shore excursions in most Britain and Ireland ports for ALL
cruise lines. Edinburgh Tattoo and more.
